If you have areas of fat that will not go away even though you lead a healthy lifestyle, you may be a good candidate for liposuction. This method of fat removal uses a cannula to suction out fat from under the skin, leaving the area slimmer and more contoured.
How Does Liposuction Work?
Dr. Scott Holley uses tumescent liposuction, injecting a mixture of sterile saline and local anesthetic into the subcutaneous fat. This will significantly decrease any bleeding during the procedure. A few small incisions allow Dr. Holley to access the fat with a cannula, breaking it up and suctioning it out.
Am I a Candidate for Liposuction?
The ideal candidate for liposuction leads an overall healthy lifestyle and maintains a stable body weight but cannot get rid of certain areas of fat. These areas often include the abdomen, flanks, thighs, and arms, although liposuction works almost anywhere people have excess fat. Candidates should have reasonable expectations and understand that liposuction is a body sculpting procedure and is not intended for weight loss.
Can Liposuction Tighten Loose Skin?
While the skin may tighten up somewhat after liposuction, especially in younger people with more elastic skin, many people have some loose skin leftover liposuction. Liposuction is often used in conjunction with other procedures, such as a tummy tuck, to remove excess skin and fat. Dr. Holley will discuss with you whether you might benefit from having a skin lifting procedure to boost the results of your liposuction.

Request a consultationShould I Have Liposuction or CoolSculpting®?
If you have a goal to remove resistant fat cells so you can appreciate the results of your healthy lifestyle, both liposuction and CoolSculpting® can help. CoolSculpting® targets smaller, more focused areas, while liposuction allows the surgeon to remove larger areas of fat during one procedure.
Liposuction will require a few days of recovery before you feel good enough to resume normal activities. CoolSculpting®, on the other hand, has no recovery time. Liposuction will provide more dramatic results but require more recovery. Both treatments last indefinitely since the removed fat will not come back. However, if you do not maintain your healthy lifestyle, your results could change.
What is Recovery Like From Liposuction?
Most people need to take a week to ten days off from work to recover from liposuction. People can resume most normal activities after two to three weeks. You will have a compression garment fitted after surgery and will wear this for several weeks to control bruising and swelling.
What Results Will I See From Liposuction?
The treated area will look slimmer and more sculpted as the swelling subsides. These fat cells do not grow back, so as long as you maintain your lifestyle you can continue to enjoy your results for many years. You may need up to six months to enjoy the complete results of your procedure.
