The brow typically sits comfortably just above or on the bone in young men and women. As we age, the eyebrow may slowly sink towards the eyelids, causing an angry, tired, or irritated appearance. Some patients may feel exhausted from using their muscles to lift their eyebrows all day.
Dr. Holley performs brow lifts to reduce signs of aging, lessen lines on the forehead and eyebrows, and restore the eyebrow to its natural, youthful position.
What is a Brow Lift?
A brow lift corrects signs of aging in the forehead and eyebrows by correcting the eyebrows’ position. The brow lift corrects droopy brows and reduces frown lines on the forehead and between the eyebrows.
At West Michigan Plastic Surgery, Dr. Holley performs two types of brow lifts: a coronal brow lift and an endoscopic brow lift. The coronal brow lift uses an incision behind the hairline from ear to ear for the most dramatic results. An endoscopic brow lift is less invasive, with small incisions behind the hairline.
Patients commonly combine brow lifts with facelifts or eyelid lifts for a more prominent facial rejuvenation.
What are the Benefits of an Eyebrow Lift?
There are many benefits to an eyebrow lift, including taking years off your face and making your eyes look wider and more awake.
Some of the benefits of a coronal brow lift include:
- The long incision is hidden behind the hairline
- Easy access to muscles in the forehead
- Permanent lifting of the eyebrows and forehead
Some of the benefits of an endoscopic brow lift include the following:
- Less invasive procedure
- Smaller incisions are hidden behind the hairline
- Shorter surgery and recovery period
- Easy access to facial skin and muscles
Depending on your current condition and goals, Dr. Holley may recommend one of the two techniques to achieve the best results.
How Long is Recovery from an Eyebrow Lift?
Recovery typically lasts about a week, with endoscopic brow lifts healing faster. Most patients feel comfortable returning to work within 7-10 days; however, more strenuous activities may require longer.
To help the healing process, we recommend keeping your head elevated for the first 48 hours. Ice packs, cold compresses, and pain medication can help reduce pain and swelling. Dr. Holley may provide bandages to minimize bruising and instructions on caring for them.
